🍔 Nando’s-Inspired Smash Burgers

Hey burger lover,

Brace yourself: this is Nando’s meets smash burger heaven. Think flame-grilled flavour, cheeky peri-peri spice, and all the juicy goodness of a crispy-edged smash patty — stacked in a soft bun with your favourite creamy sauces and crunchy bits.

It’s fast. It’s fiery. It might ruin regular burgers for you.

đź›’ You’ll need (makes 4 burgers-ish):

For the patties:

  • 500g beef mince (20% fat for max juiciness)

  • Salt & pepper

  • A splash of oil (for frying)

For the Nando’s flair:

  • 4 brioche burger buns (toasted is a game changer)

  • 4 tbsp Nando’s Peri-Peri sauce (mild to hot — your call)

  • 4 slices of cheese (cheddar or peri-peri cheese if you’re fancy)

  • Lettuce, tomato, red onion (classic build — optional but epic)

  • 2 tbsp mayo + 1 tbsp peri-peri sauce (mix = cheat’s Nando’s mayo)

  • Optional: gherkins, crispy onions, or even a hash brown if you’re feral

👨‍🍳 How to make them:

  1. Prep the sauce.
    Mix the mayo and peri-peri sauce. Boom. Set aside.

  2. Smash time.
    Divide mince into 4 loose balls — don’t overwork them! Heat a frying pan or griddle until super hot. Drop in a mince ball, smash it down with a spatula (use parchment paper if it sticks), season with salt and pepper, and sear until crispy and brown (about 2–3 mins per side). Add cheese on top during the last minute to melt.

  3. Toast the buns.
    Buttered side down in a dry pan = golden perfection.

  4. Build your burger.
    Bottom bun → smear of peri-mayo → lettuce & tomato → smashed patty with cheese → drizzle of peri-peri sauce → top bun.

  5. Optional chaos:
    Double stack. Add gherkins. Throw in crispy onions. Say sorry later.
